I was somewhat annoyed to discover this lunchtime that the notebook I'd been intending to copy my Japanese diary into actually soaks up ink like blotting paper. (Fortunately the one I got from Safeway this evening is better quality; you can't exactly go around testing them for this, though...)

I'm kind of picky about pens for writing Japanese with: the kanji are complicated so you want something with a fine line that won't stick halfway through a character but which doesn't flood the page with ink if you leave the pen on the page too long. Uniball micro eye pens are good for everyday stuff; also Muji do a really cool calligraphy pen which is halfway between a felt tip and a brush.

Well, here's today's installment of Janet-and-John level sentences:

私は今朝会社に歩きました。家から会社まで歩いて 四十五間分ぐらい かかります。
私は昼休み時に トーストを食べたり、マンガをよんだりしました。
仕事をした後に スーパーマーケットに 行きました。 ピゼとりんごとチーズとコーヒーを買いました。

[trans: I walked to work today. From my house to the office is about 45 minutes walk. At lunchtime I ate toast and read manga. After work I went to the supermarket. I bought pizza and apples and cheese and coffee.]

Manga: KareKano vol 2. Yeah, it's very close to the plot of the anime but I quite like it so I don't mind going through it again. (There's an argument for 'comic' being a more accurate translation, incidentally.)

That'll do for now; I should copy some of this stuff onto paper...
