bubbling away

I've just finished "Bubble" (the first of the two Banana Yoshimoto stories in the book I bought back on July 17th when I was still in Japan), which is the first long (about 90 pages) piece of genuine for-adults fiction I've read in Japanese. I did manage to finish the story, and it wasn't too impossibly difficult and I didn't spend the entire time doing dictionary lookups, which are all things I wasn't totally sure of when I started. So I'm feeling mildly smug about that. (If I'd consistently read a chunk of it every week I'd have finished it earlier, but there was a big chunk of time when the book just sat on my shelf half-read.)

Now I just need to read the second story :-)
