My flat has accumulated quite a large number of machines; since they've now overflowed into the sitting room I ought to try to get rid of them somehow. Does anybody want a Sun Sparcstation 2 (or alternatively an IPX) with a 21" (fixed freq, sync on green) CRT? Runs Debian (woody), makes a reasonable X terminal if you're happy with 8 bit colour. I've got an SGI Indy I could probably stand to get rid of too.

Alternatively, does anybody have any hints on getting rid of boat anchors (on ebay or otherwise)?

I'd hang onto the anchors until the floods die down :-)

Freecycle is your friend. There is a Reading Freecycle group run through Yahoo Groups.

Except Freecycle is organised the wrong way around for this sort of thing - we don't need Freecycle Reading, we need Freecycle Retrocomputing (and not a Yahoo group, either).

I'd say yes but I have a perfectly good SPARC Classic, minako.

Actually the Reading freecycle group is rather good, and has a fair chunk of retro computing on it. My only gripe with them is that the Windsor group has configured its digest e-mail to be much more user friendly. IIRC a couple of SPARCs came up on the Reading one a few weeks ago and were snapped up within a few hours. I've certainly disposed of a number of items that way that all went to good homes, and acquired quite a few things as well. I'm baffled as to why you are against it.

I'm not inherently against it; I'm just pointing out that - whether or not individuals get lucky - geographical distribution is not an effective way to dispose of very minority interest items.
