[The copy of your evidence of identity] must be certified by a UK lawyer, banker, accountant, teacher, doctor, minister of religion or postmaster

I hate that kind of thing; it's always such a hassle finding somebody who fits the criteria.

In other news, the gear cable on my bike snapped today, so it's now stuck in top gear until I can get hold of a replacement cable. Oh well, off to China tomorrow; all this broken stuff will keep until I get back.

I love how becoming a minister of any random religion automatically makes one a suitable notary. Does Scientology count? How about the ULC? It seems rather too easy to acquire such a position on the basis of no relevant qualification (such as trustworthiness).

'banker' and 'accountant' are kind of weird. I wonder if they mean, 'chartered accountant'.

For my overseas electoral registration I had to find a British passport holder who doesn't live in the UK. This was even more annoying than, when I'd moved to a new city, having to find someone who'd known me for long enough.

Would now be a good time to I remind you I'm a 'doctor' and have signed such things before?

I believe we have established that this is entirely appropriate, provided there is no stipulation that it be a 'doctor of medicine'.

<academic snob> They're not proper doctors anyway. Theoretically they're not even entitled to call themselves 'doctor', as my GP is fond of observing.</academic snob>

Matthew can sign such things as a Vet, usually (he's done passport applications etc before now)

Oh, timing. Just got back to the UK this morning and spent the last eight hours flat on my back. Have a good trip :)
