The council want to come and inspect the flat to see whether it will comply with the fire regs (adequate means of escape, adequate protection within and between dwellings); I'm sure it will fail on point one, and may well do on point two. I wonder how much this is going to cost...?

(I can't say I wasn't warned since it was pointed out by the solicitor when I bought it. And being able to get out if there's a fire would probably be handy anyway :-))

Are you (partly) responsible for the shared space / fire exits then?
